If It Didn’t Work In Britain Why Would It Work Here?

July 2, 2013

Last night at my local city hall it was standing room only as the issue of an assault weapons ban, forced on our home ruled municipality by The House of Representatives bill 183 was taken up. The bill gave these types of local governments ten days, or until July 9th of this year to enact their own ordinances with regard to such weapons and high capacity magazines. If nothing was done than the default policy would be that of state law or in other words, a ban which has yet to be snuck in. To my liking, the two hundred or so people that were present and the vast majority of the city council members chose to keep the status quo alive and well. There were many good points brought up and a surprising few bleeding hearts that brought up Sandy Hook and other massacres as points of contention.

The truth is that you are no safer after government chooses to regulate anything. We have the FDA, yet our medicine kills us. We have the USDA and E-coli remains present in our industrial food system. We have the FTC and guys like Bernie Madoff manage to dupe us. We have the DEA and there’s still drugs everywhere, and finally we have the ATF and there’s still guns….a lot of guns. The point I’m trying to illustrate here is that the only people that follow the rules are those that choose to. A crazed idiot that wants to shoot up a public place probably won’t obtain his firearms at a gun store. Make them all illegal and they will continue to be found for years just like in London. Note, anything illegal has an inherently higher value and whatever it is, it will be smuggled to areas where the demand exists.

The vast majority of law abiding gun owners will never use their gun on another person, unless that other person ends up in their house in the middle of the night. The ban enacted by Highland Park, Illinois, Lake Forest’s neighbor to the South, would have made an insane amount of weapons in many different forms illegal. People who lawfully purchased assault weapons and high capacity magazines in years past have been forced to move their weapons out of town, sell them, or turn them in to the police department for “disposal.” Yeah right! I’m happy that the wind blew this way last night, however, this isn’t over.

Illinois can and probably still will choose to ban assault weapons, as will the Federal Government. They’ll do it all in the name of safety and it will be a lie. If the find on average four-hundred fire arms per month in London than imagine how many guns are on the streets of major American cities like Chicago? It’s hopeless for them, they’re just preparing for the massive civil unrest that’s coming when our dollar gets flushed down the global financial toilet. Good luck holding onto your iron, you’re going to need it.
